Part-time Instructor Needed at Red River College

Red River College

The RRC Technical Communication diploma program is currently seeking a part-time instructor to teach a Technical Illustration 2 course next term (from January 5 to May 1, 2015). The course is scheduled for three hours per week on Mondays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Technical Illustration 2 is an introductory course in two-dimensional (2D) technical illustrations, designed as an introduction to the standard practices used in technical publications such as maintenance manuals, parts list, etc. and is scheduled to run on.

The current learning outcomes for the course are as follows:
By the end of this course of study, you must be able to:

  • Understand what proper 2D technical illustrations entail.
    • Technical accuracy
    • User-friendly illustrations
    • According to Specifications
  • Illustrate 2D parts and simple exploded view of an assembly
  • Illustrate from a technical writer’s drawing request showing detailed views, exploded views and call-outs

This is a laptop based course (all students will have their own laptops with appropriate software installed), and the software suite we can make available for the course would be Arbortext IsoDraw or Creo Illustrate (which, to my understanding, is essentially the latest version of Arbortext Isodraw).

This course follows the prerequisite Technical Illustration 1, in which students are taught the basics of 3D technical illustration using Autodesk Inventor.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in teaching this course, please encourage them to contact Kelly Stifora by phone at 204-949-8517 or by e-mail at
