Technical Communications Lead

As the Technical Communications Lead, you will plan and direct the development and dissemination of comprehensive written and online business information. The Technical Communication Lead guides the technical communication and documentation efforts for all corporate strategic projects and provides functional leadership and guidance to a team of technical writers and editors.


  • Lead and manage documentation programs within a portfolio or assigned project.
  • Create a comprehensive documentation methodology using industry best practices in documentation and usability, including analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Plan and deliver communication programs for required audiences as well as plan and direct the development of technical communication materials produced by other departments.
  • Provide guidance and direction and evaluate the performance of project and operational writing team members.
  • Manage resources and provide guidance and coaching to junior writers and project writing team members.
  • Develop technical writing project plans, assigns tasks to writing teams and manage work activities, timelines and deliverables.


  • Graduation from a recognized diploma or degree program in communications or related discipline.
  • Additional formal coursework related to business administration, business analysis, or related field.OR


  • Graduation from a recognized diploma or degree program in business administration, commerce or related field.
  • Additional formal coursework related to technical communication or related field.


  • Six years working in one or more communication discipline, which includes technical communications, two years writing for an online environment and two years leading related projects.
  • One year in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

Special Skills

  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute innovative and effective communication plans/programs.
  • Strong interviewing and listening skills for soliciting/creating or validating/understanding business requirements.
  • Current knowledge of best practices and trends related to technical communication and public relations.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
