Hi Jim,

If you're interested in applying for the Technical Writer position at Princess Auto, I invite you to submit your resume to the e-mail address listed in the posting (<a href="mailto:careers@princessauto.com" title="Send E-mail" rel="nofollow">careers@princessauto.com</a>), or apply directly through their Web site. Note that according to the information we had received, this post expired some time ago.

I quickly reviewed their site this evening and didn't see any Technical Writer positions listed.

All that considered, from what you've written above, you may be interested in the Technical Writer position at MacDon Industries. Here's a direct link to the online post:

<a href="http://www.macdon.com/careers/technical-writer" rel="nofollow">MacDon Technical Writer</a>

Best of luck!

I am a retired manager interested in securing employment as a Technical Writer on a permanent, contract, casual, or part time basis.

I have had significant experience in creating and writing Operation Instruction Manuals, Quality Control Manuals, Detailed Inspection Procedures manuals and Manufacturing Procedures for use in the Aerospace R & O Industry as well as the Heavy Trailer Manufacturing Industry. Samples of my creations are available for your perusal if so desired.

In addition to developing these various publications, I have done formal and informal presentations to company employees, customers, and sales associates on existing and newly planned equipment. I have also developed and presented instruction manuals to customers operating our competitors equipment.

I look forward to the possibility of hearing from you to discuss any opportunities your company may have.

Hello Andrew,

I’m writing to inform you and members of the STC Manitoba chapter that the Technical Editing Special Interest Group (SIG) of the STC is now accepting applications for two $1400 scholarships from students pursuing studies in technical communication. Could you please pass along to chapter members and university students the scholarship announcement copied below? The Technical Editing SIG would like to see more applications from students outside of the United States this year, and we hope that chapter outreach will help us achieve this goal.

Please let me know if there is someone else I should be contacting or if there is any way that I can help you share this information with students.

Thanks for your help!

Rebekka Andersen
Chair, STC Technical Editing SIG Scholarship Committee
randersen@ucdavis.edu
____________

The Technical Editing SIG is offering two scholarships of $1400 each.

The first scholarship assists students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in technical communication (or a related area, such as professional writing or digital media) and the second assists students who are pursuing a graduate degree in technical communication (or a related area, such as professional writing or digital media). Students applying for one of these scholarships are expected to be able to demonstrate their focus on topics related to technical editing through their academic studies, current jobs, special projects, or undergraduate/graduate program. The winners will be announced in the Technical Editing SIG newsletter.

For more information on the scholarship program, please see the STC Technical Editing website:
http://www.stc-techedit.org/tiki-index.php?page=scholarship

Eligibility

* Enrolled in an undergraduate degree or graduate degree program related to technical editing or technical communication (students pursuing associate degrees, minors, or certificates are eligible to apply)
* Pursuing a career as a technical editor

Deadline for Application
The Technical Editing SIG is accepting scholarship applications for 2012. The deadline for submission is June 17, 2012. Winners will be notified in July 2012.

To Apply
Complete the online Scholarship Application at the STC Technical Editing SIG website:

As a first year technical communication student, I'm really looking forward to this event. I'm particularly intrigued by the "Using social media as a recruitment tool for Technical Communication" topic. With the popularity of Facebook, and its estimated 300 million registered users, it seems like such a powerful tool could be used to bring attention to a profession that so many people aren't familiar with. Does anyone have any experience with using Facebook or other social media to attract potential students to not only technical communication but other programs or professions as well?

For all who wish to comment:

I wish to pose a question concerning Technical Illustrators. As far as a specialized field, what programs must a Technical Illustrator be certified in? I understand that a Technical Illustrator must be familiar with AutoCad and Inventor, but are there any other fields that require certification to be considered a Technical Illustrator?
For those of you who have experience in the industry, has a job called upon you to be proficient in such design software? If so, where did you receive such training or how did you acquire your certification?
This avenue of Technical Communication is very interesting to me, and I would like to persue such skills in the near future.
Thank you all for your time, and I look forward to any correspondences.
